If you do a simple search online on the safety of e cigarettes you will get mixed opinions. Those who sell them say they are completely harmless while health officials say otherwise. But the truth is there is not enough evidence to prove either way. And until scientific studies are done, no one really knows if e cigarettes are safe or not.
An electronic cigarette is a device that is very similar to a regular cigarette. The size and the way you use it is exactly the same. The only difference is with an electronic cigarette you will be exhaling a vapor instead of smoke. There is no tobacco contained in the device. That’s why people usually call it vaping instead of smoking.
Unlike traditional cigarettes, e cigarettes are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. As a matter of fact, most e cigarettes aren’t even made in the United States. They are made in China and other countries where quality control is taken very lightly. That is one of the reasons some officials feel the device isn’t safe to use. Some testing that has been done on the cartridges show poor quality and false label claims.
However, it is true that e cigarettes contain fewer chemicals than regular cigarettes. The catch is that the chemicals it does contain are still harmful. While it is true you are exhaling a vapor, that vapor still contains a variety of chemicals including diethylene glycol. Diethylene glycol is a harmful substance that is also found in tobacco.

Most people believe they can use e cigarettes anywhere but that isn’t completely true. While the Clean Indoor Air Act does not specifically state e cigarettes are prohibited, that doesn’t stop an organization from prohibiting them. That is totally up to the business. Most airlines have already banned e cigarettes from airplanes.
And even though e cigarettes have helped hundreds of people kick the habit, they are still not considered a smoking cessation. That’s because the FDA has not done any testing on them that would prove they actually help people quit smoking. Some actually believe electronic cigarettes promote smoking because of the way they mimic the real thing.
Overall no one knows how safe or unsafe a device of this nature is. Because of this the FDA and other organizations will continue to try and ban them. The problem is that no matter what the law says, they can always be bought online from other countries.
